Road

Fort William is situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, on the shores of Loch Linnhe. Lochaber encompasses a vast area of the highlands, stretching from Ardnamurchan to Loch Laggan, Invergarry to Glencoe. The area is highly accessible from the A82, which runs from Glasgow to Inverness, and has good road links to the rest of the country. You can easily use the RAC route planner to find your way to Fort William.

Rail

Fort William station has daily services to and from Glasgow and Mallaig, and connecting services to the rest of the Highlands, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and major UK cities. The Caledonian Sleeper operates daily from London Euston to Fort William (bargain berths from 19 are sometimes available, ring FirstScotrail on 08457 55 00 33) Contact National Rail enquiries 08457 484950 for information, or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk. Bikes need to be booked in advance on some trains - make sure you enquire about this!

Bus

Scottish Citylink operates a regular coach service from Glasgow, Oban, Inverness and the Isle of Skye. Citylink can be contacted on 08705 505050 or using the website www.citylink.co.uk. Although they only allow folding bikes to be carried on the coach, this is still a good option if you plan to hire bikes once you arrive in Fort William. There is a year round local bus service to Nevis Range, Glencoe, Kinlochleven and Roy Bridge among other destinations from Fort William. Plane

A number of low cost airlines operate directly into Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with connections form the UK and Europe. Other major airlines also operate into these airports. Connections from the airports to Fort William can be made easily be car hire, bus or train.

Boat

Caledonian MacBrayne service 22 islands and 4 peninsulas around the west of Scotland. Use the ferry to take your bike to the island of Eigg for the day, or take the ferry from Mallaig across to Armadale on Skye. www.calmac.co.uk has all the information you need for planning your sail!
